Dubai’s UAE-IX Internet Exchange Powered by DE-CIX Upgrades to Groundbreaking DE-CIX Apollon Platform

Frankfurt (Germany)/ Dubai (UAE), 8 March 2017. The UAE based UAE-IX Internet Exchange, managed by datamena in partnership with DE-CIX, today announced that it will upgrade to the powerful DE-CIX Apollon technology platform as the foundation for its regional infrastructure in the United Arabian Emirates - in the near future. The DE-CIX Apollon platform is the world’s largest and most advanced Ethernet interconnection platform. Built on “Supernodes” consisting of a 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE)-capable switching system that supports large numbers of 100 GE ports across the switching fabric, DE-CIX Apollon delivers highly secure and resilient connectivity to UAE-IX peering platform. The technical upgrade is accommodating the continuous growth UAE-IX has been facing ever since its launch five years ago. UAE-IX is a carrier and data center-neutral Internet Exchange for the Middle East that interconnects global networks and, above all, network operators and content providers in the GCC region.

Benefits of Peering at UAE-IX – reduce latency and costs

Speaking about the new UAE-IX upgrade, Hany Fahmy Aly, Executive Vice President Enterprise Business, du, discusses the benefits of peering to reduce latency and costs, “The Gulf region’s data traffic is booming. HDTV, online gaming, multimedia, and cloud computing are driving data traffic here as well. Until now, Internet service providers in the GCC region have had to exchange their traffic via Europe, Asia or North America, leading to high latency rates. UAE-IX reduces latency times by up to 80 per cent and costs by up to 70 per cent for GCC providers. It dramatically improves IP network resilience, routing efficiency and the quality of the Internet experience for end-users.”
UAE-IX is built on a fully redundant switching platform located in high-class secure data centers in Dubai. Initiated by Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC) with the support of the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), it dramatically improves IP network resilience, routing efficiency and the quality of the Internet experience for end-users.
