IX Reach Connects to the Middle East’s First Carrier-Neutral Internet Exchange, UAE-IX
London, UK – 15 May 2013: Remote peering specialist and network connectivity solutions provider, IX Reach, has added Dubai to its long list of global locations and become the latest member to connect to the DE-CIX managed United Arab Emirates Internet Exchange, UAE-IX, from its new PoP location in Dubai’s International Media Production Zone (IMPZ).
The Gulf economy is booming and, along with it, the region’s data traffic; HDTV, online gaming, multimedia, and cloud computing are all driving data traffic in the region. Historically, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the Middle East regions have had to exchange their traffic via Europe, Asia or North America, leading to high latency rates. The launch of UAE-IX, the first carrier neutral Internet Exchange platform for the Middle East, will help deliver a local alternative for regional traffic exchange and localise Internet content. IX Reach’s network presence now offers seamless connectivity to its global footprint, highly competitive wholesale prices and one stop shop connectivity solutions.
IX Reach strategically placed its hub at the datamena – Equinix alliance data centre complex in the IMPZ, and is already offering transit and international capacity to its expansive international network, achieving wholesale pricing considerably lower than has traditionally been available in the market. The addition of Dubai and UAE-IX to IX Reach’s network benefits customers both internationally and regionally, by offering operators outside the region access into Dubai and the Gulf. Local operators and hosting companies gain access to IX Reach’s full portfolio of network services, including capacity into Europe and America, and remote peering solutions to other major Internet Exchanges. In addition, IX Reach can provide highly competitive IP and international private leased circuit (IPLC) services to businesses and office locations in the UAE and region.
“Through their global network, IX Reach will simplify international connectivity for datamena customers and enterprises in the region” said Hatem Bamatraf, Executive Vice President, Enterprise, du. “We are proud that IX Reach has chosen datamena and we look forward to supporting them in reaching their growth objectives in the Middle East.”
Stephen Wilcox, Founder and Technical Director of IX Reach commented, “This is an exciting move, IX Reach is bringing something new to Dubai and the region, with more direct access via our network to and from the Middle East at a fraction of the cost it used to be. We’ve also seen significant interest from the corporate sector – being able to connect offices in Dubai to other international centres such as Frankfurt, London and New York is now a lot easier and cheaper. UAE-IX compliments our services, through the growing list of networks present we ensure that we keep regional traffic local – lowering latency and lowering costs.”
